Faux
Finishes
Faux Finishes include a number of different painting techniques.
Faux finish painting replicates natural architectural materials
such as fine wood or stone and include mural and tromp l'oeil painting
that fools the eye with accurate replication of fixed architectural
structure or scenic murals that are indeed painted on a flat surface
but have depth and perspective.
Stan’s Painting and Decorating. performs graining, marbling
and other stone finishes as well as stenciling work. Some of the
places that are typical applications of our work include furniture,
interior architectural trim surfaces, and panels. We do a lot of
graining work where exotic wood species have been used for wood
paneling but doors, windows and trim are not typically available
in the same exotic woods. We match the paneling and then grain the
doors and windows and trim to match the exotic woods. Marbling and
other stone finishes of surfaces provides the owner with the look
of and feel of stone where budgets are a concern or where the use
of actual stone is impractical. Why not turn that ordinary painted
crown molding and trim package into something very special?
Glazes
and Other Treatments
Decorative Glazes are typically one or more colors of translucent
paints applied over solid color base coats. The glaze is manipulated
to achieve varying textures. The degree of translucency and sheen
can also effect the final look. The glaze is either applied and
finished in a positive or negative fashion. A positive glaze is
added to the base coat while being manipulated by any number of
tools such as sponges, special rollers, chamois, rag, cheesecloth,
or brushes. A negative glaze is accomplished when glaze is applied
to the base coat and then manipulated off of the surface while being
manipulated by any of the same tools used for positive finish. Either
type of glaze application can provide a one of a kind look that
can range from very dramatic to a subtle look that adds more depth
than just a plain painted surface.
We also use decorative glaze techniques on furniture and interior
architectural trim. When that special look is needed - anything
from an aged look, an exotic look our futuristic look is possible.
Application of different types of texture can add to the design
effect you need. Trowel applied finishes that provide that Southwest
look or special textures finished with simple glazes provide you
with an endless range of looks to finish any type of residential
or commercial project.
Color?
Color - It is the one topic that is genuinely puzzling for most
people. Is this the right color? Does this color work with that
one? Does this color look lighter or darker once it's on the wall?
We work with color every day. Color theory and selection is something
we can assist you with and provide for your project.
You can use a computer to match this color can't you?
A questions we get asked a lot is about the computer color matching
that is now available. What's the story on computer color matching.
We asked a few of the people we work with to comment on computer
color matching
The machines are a good start and do save us time in matching colors.
They do not match colors as close as the human eye can. If you combine
the education that is necessary to match colors along with a good
'color eye', you can accomplish very close if not perfect color
matches. The machines can get you close and they do save us time,
but they can't replace us, yet"
Commercial
Performance and Professionalism
What does performance and professionalism have to do with commercial
painting? We think it has everything to do with it. We work with
building owners and facility managers as well as commercial general
contractors that require a higher quality of finish work than the
lowest bid will deliver. Our commercial customers depend on our
customer service. The commercial work we perform includes churches,
warehouses, office tenant finish, restaurants, museums, retail stores,
and galleries. We love a challenge. How we can be of service to
you?
As a business owner, you take great pride in your business and aren't
afraid to let it show. We can help you convey that pride by giving
you "the look" you want to express.
Stan’s Painting and Decorating . has painted for many business
owners in Indiana with a growing, impressive resume' of commercial
projects.
From painting projects that include some of the highest rated hotels
in the state, many small and large businesses, and even movie productions,
Stan’s Painting and Decorating is quickly establishing a strong
reputation for superior commercial painting.
Residential
Our Quality is our Strength
The reason we can continually provide high quality work is the type
of people we employee and are blessed with. Our employees work full
time, year round. We don't hire more people during busy periods
and then lay them off during the winter. This limits the amount
of business we can contract but provides for consistent high quality
and a better working environment for our employees
Interior & Exterior Repaint Work
We work in and on some of the finest homes in the metro area and
our clients are the type that want the work done right - that's
why they hire us. Last year eighty percent of our business was from
repeat and referral customers.Every type of work has certain systems.
Once contracted, our interior repaint work starts with a pre-project
meeting with you, our client. This meeting allows us to discuss
and plan the direction of the work through your home, what day we
will be in what area, how and where we will move furniture, what
items you need to move, how best we can protect your property and
establishes guidelines to make our presence in your home as easy
as possible for you. The pre-project meeting also establishes what
paint colors are to be used.
New and Remodel Residential
Painting
We work for some of the premier custom builders, remodeling contractors
and design professionals in the Indiana. These builders require
a better quality finished product for their clients on an ongoing
basis, that's why they contract with us. They depend on our higher
quality finish work and our ability to complete the project on schedule.
We build relationships with builders.
The
Paperwork
PROPOSAL
Every one of our projects starts with a proposal to the prospective
customer. Take a look at some of the items that make up a good contract
- one that protects the customer
The proposal is used to establish what work is to be contracted
and performed, and at what price. A proposal from Stan’s Painting
and Decorating provides you with information on how we intend on
protecting your property, how we will prepare surfaces to be work
on, how we will apply paint or complete decorative work and what
kinds of material we will be using. Our proposals also call out
the type of clean up work that will be provided once our work is
completed. Our proposals contain project specific information and
other information regarding safety considerations. Typically a copy
of our current insurance certificate is included with the proposal.
Once you accept our proposal we work with you to schedule your project.
Establishing and meeting both start and finish dates is one of our
project success gauges. Prior to starting your project, we meet
with you in a 'pre-project' meeting to make sure any concerns you
may have are addressed and to assure we have planned your project
work properly. Security issues are addressed and the path of the
project (what gets done when and what direction we move through
your property) is agreed upon.
The
Change Order
What happens if there are changes to the scope of work you have
contracted for? We use a Change Order form when changes either subtract
or add work to the project. A change order calls out what work will
be changed and if there are changes in pricing.
Are there changes to what we originally contracted to do? We utilize
a written change order to address any changes - be they additions
or deductions of work. A change order provides you with peace of
mind. Rather than settling on items at a later date after the project
is complete, a change order provides up front information with which
to base decisions on. Use of a change order promotes trust and keeps
the word surprised out of your vocabulary.
A Change Order from Stan’s Painting and Decorating provides
a line item by line item description of any additional work or any
work that will not be performed and the associated price addition
or deduction for labor and material. Our form also provides you
with the current contract amount and the revised total amount. It
provides a project management tool for you.
Insurance
Here's our insurance certificate - something we supply with all
of our proposals. Make sure to receive one from all of the companies
bidding on your project. This is an important part of the paperwork
for you as a homeowner, building owner or business owner. When you
sign a contract make sure the your contractor has the proper insurance
in place
We carry full insurance including Workers Compensation Insurance,
and Commercial Auto Insurance, and $1,000,000 of General Liability
Insurance.
Insurance protects you from liability should an accident occur or
a worker be injured on your property or project. We typically provide
a copy of our insurance certificate with residential proposals and
for commercial bids with companies that don't already have a copy
Wallcoverings
Wallcovering can be any material applied to wall and ceiling
surfaces. Typically wallpaper or wallcovering but can include
fabrics and even wood veneers. Stan’s Painting and
Decorating. installs residential and commercial wallpapers,
wallcoverings and fabrics. We also remove wallpapers and
wallcovering. If your project requires six single rolls
of wallpaper or several hundred yards of wallcovering, we
can do it!
Wallpaper and wallcovering projects start with proper measurement
of surfaces to receive wallcovering. Once we know how much
material is needed, the selection of paper or wallcovering
is next. We can assist you with your selection or setup
a meeting for you with one of the many design professionals
we work with in the wallcovering industry. Preparation to
the surfaces receiving wallcoverings is sometimes necessary
to help assure the best possible results. Preparation can
include applying wallpaper primer, smoothing surfaces and
priming of repairs. Of course any painting that is to be
done in the area receiving wallcoverings should be completed
prior to the installation work.
Wallcovering in your home or business is one of many decorative
finishes that can add richness with design, a professional
look, subtle warmth, or personal tastes to any room or area.
Check out the links below for some of the other decorative
finishes that we can provide for you.
Decorating
- What is it?
Decorating - what is it? We're not talking about the work
that a design professional would complete. The word decorating
in the painting and decorating industry describes the actual
decorative finishes applied or installed by the contractor.
These include installation of wallcoverings and application
or painting of decorative glazes, faux finishes, stenciling,
and textures.
The following pages provide you with a look at some of
the decorative finishes or decorating that Stan’s
Painting and Decorating inc. performs.
